What a health and safety audit covers
Under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, employers must do what is reasonably practicable to protect people affected by their work. Most organisations have policies in place — the difficulty is knowing whether those documents match reality on the ground, and whether the risks that matter most are actually controlled.
Our audits test both sides. We review your documentation and risk assessments, then inspect the workplace itself: how work is carried out, how contractors are managed, how accidents and near misses are recorded, and whether the controls described on paper are operating in practice.
You receive a written report with findings rated by risk, so you can see what needs attention now, what should be planned, and what is already working well. It is written in plain English and structured for sharing with boards, insurers, landlords or clients who ask for assurance.
What the audit includes
Scope is agreed with you in advance, so the audit focuses on your operations rather than a generic checklist.
Documentation review
Health and safety policy, arrangements, risk assessments, training records and accident reporting reviewed for adequacy and currency.
Site walkover and inspection
A structured inspection of the workplace covering access, escape routes, work equipment, housekeeping, welfare and signage.
Contractor and building management
How contractors are selected, inducted and supervised, and how shared or tenanted buildings are coordinated.
Risk-rated findings
Each finding is rated so you can distinguish urgent action from planned improvement, with owners and sensible timescales.
Legal commentary
Each significant gap is linked to the duty it relates to, so the report stands up when questioned by an insurer, client or regulator.
Improvement action plan
A prioritised action plan you can work through, with support available for implementation if you need it.
Who benefits
An audit is most useful where responsibility for safety is spread across people, sites or contracts — and someone needs a clear, evidence-based picture.
